In the Spirit

Lord, help me to live in the Spirit.

The End! (just joking, or am I)

Here is a statement that really opened my mind and spirit to who I am in Christ. It baffled me. I mean I was bamboozled and it is so simple. We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience. (mic drop) Wow!

Now, if this is true, how much of our lives do we live accordingly to that principle? Those who are followers of Jesus Christ are disciples. As such, we should be devoted to a life surrendered to the Spirit and in an eternal relationship with Jesus.

This takes intentionality. This will take perseverance. It is critical for our sanctification and our relationship with Christ. We need the Holy Spirit to help us through this. In the Spirit is where we find and express who we really are, spiritual beings that belong to God.

The Word of God makes many references to how we should be dependent on the Spirit for everyday life. We ought to walk by the Spirit and the way to do that is to be filled by the Sprit (Ephesians 5:18). The Spirit helps us to live a righteous and holy life turned away from sin (Galatians 5:16-17). It helps us to not do what we please and desire for our flesh, but to instead honor God with obedience which is true worship. We must pray in the Spirit (Ephesians 6:18). As a Christian and a disciple of Christ we should bear the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22).

The Spirit of God is transformative. This is how we grow spiritually. The whole Christian walk is about sanctification and this is through the Spirit of God. It is a continual walk to live life as God wills. We must give all control to God. The Holy Spirit will intercede for us in prayer according to God’s will (Romans 8:27).

To truly be able to finish the race, and finish it well, we must be dependent on the Holy Spirit. Our flesh and our humanness is selfish and only wants what it wants. It is willing to get it at whatever cost. The flesh is our enemy. The flesh is against everything the Spirit is for (Galatians 5:17). Do you want to live for yourself and this decaying body and flesh? Or, do you want to live for the One who gave His life for us all, Jesus?
