It’s your choice: Life or Death

The choices you make will affect you now and for eternity ~ Choose Life.

The choices that we make in life matter. Let me give you an illustration that is taught to young children; good choices equal good consequences and bad choices equal bad consequences. Pretty simple, right?

The Bible is full of examples and events that occurred because of one’s individual choices. We see it from the very beginning. Adam and Eve were given a choice and they choose incorrectly. They made the decision to go against God which led to the fall. It is something that mankind is still suffering the consequences for.

In the Old Testament, God speaks to Moses and makes it very clear in the book of Deuteronomy I have given you the choice between life and blessings, or death and curse (Deuteronomy 30:15). The Lord tells us to 1) love Him, 2) walk in His ways, and 3) obey His commandments, statutes, and His judgements (v. 16).

God tells us that if we don’t choose Him and 1) your heart turns away from God, 2) you don’t obey, but 3) are drawn away and worship other gods and serve them that you shall surely die (v. 17). Not maybe, not perhaps, but you shall surely die (facts).

Ladies and gentlemen this is not an option nor an opinion. It is as crystal clear as water. Our loving Father God in His love and sovereignty has given us the freedom to choose. However, your choice has consequences and they are clearly stated.

God reiterates and repeats it as they say for the folks in the back (vv. 19-20). Do you want God for you or God against you? God is holy. If you choose death and curse He cannot go along with it, and He cannot bless it. God cannot bless sin because it is the opposite of what He is and what He stands for.

God is love. God is truth. He tells we can choose, but He is clearly commanding us to choose Him. Choose God. Choose Jesus. Restoration is promised to those who walk in an intimate relationship with the Lord. Pick what you will stand for and who your allegiance is to.

“So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants, by loving the Lord your God, by obeying His voice, and by holding fast to Him; for this is your life and the length of your days.” (Deuteronomy 30:19b-20a)
