Doubt in the Mind of the Believer
Move forward - there is no turning back.
As God revealed the need for me to speak or write about this subject not only was He guiding me to the next topic but He was revealing something to me which required me to make a choice. Was I going to believe what God had previously spoken to or would I doubt His goodness and wisdom? Something in my mind changed that day.
Hernando Cortes a Spanish conquistador who landed in Mexico wanted to motivate his men to do well in the new-found land. He needed to make sure that the men were devoted and invested in succeeding in this venture. What did he do – he burned all the ships down. He had made a decision and there was no turning back. The only choice was to move forward and commit to the conquest. Have you done this?
Have you made up your mind and heart in the decision to follow Jesus? Do you believe His promises? I want you to really ask yourself these questions. Ask God to search your heart. Give an honest and open heart surgery answer. Can others look at you or look at your life and say, “He/She is really sold out for God!”
This isn’t about religion. This isn’t about knowledge. This isn’t about how much time you spend in a church building volunteering or serving. This is about your heart for God. Is Jesus your everything, and are you willing to follow Him above all else.
Is God enough? This is essential to living a Spirit filled life. It is about faith. The faith that you have in God, not in your faith, or in religion. It is a decision to move forward with God no matter the price that must be paid. I can tell you from experience that it won’t be easy. Family might turn on you. You may lose friends. Your belief, faith, and commitment will be questioned. You must be ready (1 Peter 3:15-16).
Allow me to give you a word of encouragement. God is with you. Jesus tells us in the book of Matthew, “and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20b) Jesus is with us. Stand firm in Christ and surrender to Him. It is because of Jesus that we even believe and have faith (Hebrews 12:2). He is the author and perfecter of our faith. Keep your eyes on Him and set yourself free from everything that is holding you back. Burn the ships!
